Germany About Me:
My name is Edward Bäcker.
I am a freshman at a german school.
I have been drafted to go into war. This is my picture when I went into the war: Before the war, I loved hanging out with my friends, especially my best friend, Alonzo Ackland. My favorite food is my mom's homemade meatloaf. Yes, it sounds gross to some of you, but it tastes really good. The reason why my nation,Germany, was involved in World War 1 was because we were honoring our alliance with Austria-Hungary. When Austria-Hungary took over the Serbs, Serbia got angry and formed a group called the Black Hand. Austria-Hungary sent an ultimatum to the Serbs. When Serbs refused, Austria-Hungary declared war on them. Austria-Hungary asked for our help, since we are allies, to fight against Serbia. While Austria was asking for our help, Serbia was asking for help from Russia. Russia had to bring in France along with them. Now, along the side of our ally,Austria-Hungary, we fought against not only Serbia, but also Russia and France. The Black Hand killed the Archduke, Franz Ferdinand and his wife.
Before the war, we almost went to war with France because we both wanted Morocco. Later on, we almost went to war with Britain for the strongest navy. We did these because we wanted respect from the rest of Europe. Germany sent 15 year old boys to fight in the war. My best friend was sent into war about a month before me and a few weeks into war, I had heard from his mom that he was killed. That was when I started to get scared.
In May 1915, 1,200 passengers including 128 Americans were killed when one of our submarines torpedoed the boat that the passengers were on, the Lusitania (British Liner). We explained that Lusitania was carrying weapons and that is why they attacked the boat. President Woodrow Wilson of the United States Of America, threatened to cut off relations with us and we agreed to stop our submarine campain. President Wilson angrily denounced us because we announced that we would resume unrestricted submarine warfare. Sussex Plan: We agreed not to sink unarmed passengers without warning. This was made by the Americans because that was the ship that was sunk with the most people on it. Battle Plan-
We are going to go through Belgium and attack near Paris, France and hold back Russia. That plan failed. Propoganda poster-
It says, "DESTROY THIS MAD BRUTE ENLIST" this is from the US and was being pointed at Germany because they are the enemy and they viewed the Germans as "Beasts that must be defeated."
Treaty of Versailles: In June 1919, Germany was forced to sign the Treaty of Versailles. It was a treaty that forced the Germans to accept full blame for the war. It also had a huge reperation that would put Germany, who already had a damaged economy, under a struggling burden. The reperations not only covered the destruction but also pensions for millions of allied soldiers or their widows and families. The total cost came over $30 billion. This treaty removed hundreds of square miles of territory from western to eastern Germany, stripped Germany of it's overseas colonies, and it returned Alsace and Lorraine to France.
